My wife and I went for a walk on our town park the day before the April 9 snowstorm. We just wanted to get out before things got nasty. April is like that. I found this stunning example of Fomitopsis betulina, the common Birch polypore, on a fallen Betula papyrifera (white birch) log, and thought it worthy of a studio portrait; and so I present it, fore and aft. I think it’s lovely
