This time of year in New England, whether you are a flower photographer or not, you’re taking pictures of flowers. How can you not? They’re all over the place and they’re beautiful! And I think they are just as gorgeous when they’re dead!

The trick with this image was to get all the stems and blossoms on essentially the same plane, which would keep the image fairly two-dimentional and eliminate the need to focus stack. All I had to do was line the stems up pretty much the way I wanted,  and then clamp them all between two boards. I like the way it’s turned out. The textures and tones in the folds and wrinkles is endlessly fascinating.
